Get Hooked originated in 2000, the brainchild of Mick Watson, a Durham based policeman who tried using the activity of angling to combat forms of social exclusion amongst young people. It was originally delivered through Durham Agency against Crime (DAAC), aimed at juveniles who have been identified by local agencies i.e. Police, Youth Offending Teams, and School as being at risk from crime. The results of the original scheme were amazing with evidence of improved truancy and no participants going on to offend. As a consequence schemes have been replicated in various forms around the country seeking to replicate itsÕ success. The Trust provides an umbrella structure for regionally based schemes, providing direction, guidance and have developed an internal 'chartermark system' ensuring quality of delivery at the same time as making sure that the staff and volunteers operate to a strict code of conduct. We provide a comprehensive manual of guidance and lesson plans and access to discounted /free equipment supplied by our commercial trade partners. Most importantly we bring together national organisation partners to work with local communities
